[情報] Free agents McDyess, Bass intrigue Bobcats

Looking to address the Charlotte Bobcats' need for a backup power forward,
general manager Rod Higgins has contacted agents for Antonio McDyess and
Brandon Bass.
McDyess, who played for the Detroit Pistons, and Bass, a Dallas Maverick, are
both unrestricted free agents. Higgins said both discussions were
preliminary, but he made it clear either one could fill a hole on the depth
chart.
“You look at our roster, and he makes a lot of sense,” Higgins said of
6-foot-8 Bass, who played a total of four NBA seasons with the Hornets and
Mavericks. “But he's going to have options, too.''
It's unclear how the Pistons' and Mavericks' situations might affect McDyess
and Bass.
The Pistons reportedly have agreements to sign Chicago's Ben Gordon and
Milwaukee's Charlie Villanueva once the new salary cap is announced next
week. That will eat up much of the Pistons' cap room and Villanueva plays the
same position as McDyess.
The Mavericks' first priority seems to be retaining point guard Jason Kidd,
who is being pursued by the New York Knicks.
Higgins addressed several other issues in a brief interview with the Observer
Thursday:
He said he has not contacted agents for Allen Iverson or Rasheed Wallace.
Both are unrestricted free agents who previously thrived playing for Bobcats
coach Larry Brown.
He said the team chose not to pick up point guard Sean Singletary's option
for next season. That trims about $736,000 off the Bobcats' payroll for next
season.
It wasn't a surprise that the Bobcats did this; Singletary, who arrived in a
multi-player trade with the Phoenix Suns, wasn't activated for the team's
last 29 games. The Bobcats have a taller alternative in Dontell Jefferson,
more fitting what Brown wants in his third point guard.
He said he contacted the agent for restricted free agent Raymond Felton and
will soon continue those discussions. Since the Bobcats are over the salary
cap regardless of Felton's status, they don't have to complete his new
contract to facilitate other signings.
Notes
Unrestricted free agent Sean May said via e-mail that the Bobcats contacted
his agent, but have yet to make an offer to re-sign him, after declining to
make a $3.6 million qualifying offer. May said four or five other teams have
expressed interest.
Unrestricted free agent Cartier Martin will play summer league with the
Golden State Warriors.
