ORLANDO, Fla. -– The guy getting the most reps at Charlotte Bobcats practice won't suit up for summer-league games. That's intentional, assistant coach Dave Hanners said, because working with point guard D.J. Augustin trumps other agendas. Augustin is the only point guard under contract for next season. It's possible free agent Raymond Felton has played his last game as a Bobcat. So when Augustin volunteered to practice, Hanners made sure he's continuously on the court. "My understanding of what summer-league is about is making the Bobcats a better team next season,'' said Hanners. "For D.J. to get as many reps as he can, right up until we play, I think that's ideal.'' Hanners said three other point guards – Jeremy Pargo, Sherron Collins and Denis Clemente – have all done well. "All of them are a little better at running the team than I thought they might be for their age,'' Hanners said. "I've seen at summer league before where they get caught up in the competition part and forget to run the team.'' Collins grew up in Chicago, so he was thrilled when Bobcats owner (and ex-Bulls superstar) Michael Jordan invited him to training camp. That somewhat made up for the disappointment when former Kansas guard Collins went undrafted. Ultimate jet-lag: Three days, three flights and 14 time zones later, Australian Nathan Jawai finally made it to Orlando. Jawai had national-team responsibilities back in his home country, then he had a connecting flight to Brisbane cancelled. He finally got here, by way of Los Angeles, for the fifth of seven practices before the Bobcats begin games at the Magic's practice facility Monday. It speaks to Jawai's experience – he's played for Toronto, Dallas and Minnesota – that he fit in so quickly. "You couldn't tell (he was new to the offense), and he only went over it on paper this morning for 20 minutes,'' Hanners said. "He understands there's secondary break, there's side pick-and-roll, there's high pick-and-roll…He knows what they are and once he learns our name for them, he's OK.'' Jawai is a burly 6-10 and 280 pounds. He's had several stops-and-starts, including a scare in Toronto when doctors examined him for an enlarged heart. You could easily see him as a keeper, except the Bobcats are already loaded with centers. "I'm exhausted,'' Jawai acknowledged. "My legs are gone, but a day's rest and I'll be fine.''
