[閒聊] Celtics’ failed trade talks
Celtics’ failed trade talks tough to swallow
BOS親近人士提到
Angie一整晚都再提交易
提供給我們的還需要第三支球隊加入才能完成.....
且我們認為16順位選不到Frank因而放棄...
所以沒有Angie認為的已經談到細節了?
另外同樣包裹也提供給熱火
Riley也不感興趣.....

It was late on draft night, the ballroom on the floor above having been long
since cleared of invited Celtic revelers. Wyc Grousbeck emerged from the
owners’ room on the mezzanine level and threw a travel bag over his shoulder.
He was looking more than a little tired, a condition that certainly wouldn’t
be helped by the flight to London he said he was about to take.
But Grousbeck’s “Want to get away?” moment had occurred two hours earlier
upstairs in the immediate aftermath of the Celtics’ first pick. The
assembled season-ticket holders were looking for more clear and present
evidence to support their investment when the name of 6-1 Louisville point
guard Terry Rozier was announced and flashed across the ballroom’s giant
screens.
The reaction was loud and decidedly disappointed. That’s when Wyc was shown
to the stage.
On two occasions, he had to wait for the grumbling to subside so he could be
heard. The guests had put down their drinks and finger food and taken up
torches and pitchforks.
It would have been cool if Grousbeck had gone Dangerfield on them.
“Hey, tough room.”
But it’s fair to assume he was feeling their frustration. He was there in
the basketball operations suite as Danny Ainge tried to move up from the 16th
position and give the people something to free drink to.
The Celtics had come into the draft believing that an impact big man was out
of their reach and instead hoping to maneuver for a shooter/scorer, someone
who could stretch the floor or simply give them the kind of offensive
skillset that others could complement.
The opening came when Justise Winslow was still on the board at No. 9. The
Celts had engaged in some preliminary talks with Charlotte, though nothing
approaching that which was being rumored by NBA writers on social media
platforms.
According to league sources, the Celtics saw this as their maybe their
last-best chance to get a player they had not only rated this highly, but who
also fit a need.
And they were prepared to deal. Interestingly, the Hornets were not
necessarily looking for any of the players the C’s had to offer. They were
more interested in their stockpile of draft picks, and 16 and 28 this year
alone were clearly not going to get it done.
Sides confirmed the Celtics went on to offer multiple future first-round
picks, getting so caught up in the chase that Ainge was said to catch himself
putting more on the table than he would have under less time sensitive
circumstances. At one point, other teams were brought into the deal to help
create a package that would entice Michael Jordan’s team.
But the Hornets had become enamored with Frank Kaminsky and didn’t believe he
’d still be on the board at 16, so they pulled out of the talks.
That led the Celts to immediately turn their attention to Miami, owner of the
next pick. They again offered multiple draft picks and were open to
discussing players from the current roster, but the Heat saw the same things
in Winslow as did Ainge and staff. Miami got its — and the Celtics’ — man.
So ended the Bostonians’ major trade negotiations. The club had been very
active, though not to the wild extent reported in several outlets.
One team source said some of the talk seemed to be fashioned from whole
cloth. There was not even a small basis in fact from which to imagine a trade
scenario.
According to discussions with sources around the league, Marcus Smart was
never shopped by the Celts — though he was name was reported so often he
called the club to inquire if he was on the block. This is not to say Smart
couldn’t have been available under a larger and more comprehensive
situation, but nothing of that sort ever came close.
Some of the Celtics’ alleged targets were well off the mark, as well. The
names cannot be used because they will have to play against these guys, but
NBA personnel sources confirmed the C’s had no interest at all in some of
the people they were said to be moving up in the draft to get.
In the end, Ainge and Co. chose to go with their considered analysis, the
product of months and years of tracking. They also chose to give themselves a
lot more work.
If every player currently under contract — and each draftee — reaches his
maximum potential, the Celtics will have a roster top-heavy with small
people. Trades will be necessary, and Ainge cautioned Thursday that what you
see now is not what will be in uniform to open the 2015-16 season.
As of today, however, there are no pending deals in place to bring better fit
to the roster. There are several more turns to be taken on this road, and it
will require time, because to get what the Celts need will mean allowing
younger players to develop to increase their market value.
It’s understandable for the team’s followers to be experiencing a bit of
draft hangover these days. They were hoping for something exciting on their
plate Thursday, and were instead informed that they must eat more vegetables
and trust they will be stronger and healthier later on.
It is impossible to tell today whether these are the correct draft picks,
because there is no straight and visible line from here to contendership. The
puzzle pieces were far different, but the 2007 trade for Ray Allen didn’t
make as much sense as it came to when Kevin Garnett arrived.
Celtic followers could only wish they were throwing around such names this
weekend. Instead, their gatherings will be less a celebration than a support
group.
Hey, tough room.
