Jol suggests Euro edge
Tottenham boss Martin Jol believes foreign coaches' knowledge of the European
market helps them to be a success in The Premiership.
Since Arsene Wenger arrived as Arsenal manager almost a decade ago, the
leading Premiership clubs have steadily turned towards an overseas hand at
the helm.
Jose Mourinho, backed by Roman Abramovich's millions, ended Chelsea's wait
for the title during his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Rafa Benitez's debut campaign in charge of Liverpool, also in 2004/05, saw
the Spanish tactician mastermind The Reds' UEFA Champions League triumph.
And down at White Hart Lane, Dutch coach Jol has turned Tottenham into
European contenders since replacing another foreign boss - Jacques Santini -
just over 12 months ago.
Though not all foreign appointments have proved to be successful, Jol
does feel the imports have an edge over many of their English contemporaries.
