Bent ready for Defoe fight
Darren Bent believes he is battling with Jermain Defoe for a place in
England's World Cup squad.
The young striker has acquitted himself well in The Premiership since joining
Charlton Athletic over the summer from Ipswich Town.
He has scored nine goals in the top flight and has also been included in the
England senior squad, after impressing for the Under-21 side.
Bent is hoping he can maintain his form for The Addicks and be among
Sven Goran Eriksson's 23 players for the World Cup in Germany.
With Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen and Peter Crouch seemingly guaranteed a place,
Bent feels it is between himself and Tottenham hot shot Defoe for the final
striker's slot.
