Martin Jol couldn't help but look back at the first leg as he reflected on our Carling Cup semi-final exit at Arsenal on Wednesday night. Mido's late equaliser gave us hope in the second leg at the Emirates that, at 3-3 on aggregate and with Arsenal rocking slightly, we could fashion another chance for a winning goal. But it wasn't to be. Jeremie Aliadiere capitalised on Ricardo Rocha's slip to hand the home side the lead again just a minute before the end of the first period of extra time and when Tomas Rosicky's shot cannoned off the post, onto Pascal Chimbonda and crept over the line for 3-1 on the night, 5-3 on aggregate, it was all over. The mood amongst the Spurs contingent was a far cry from 8.45pm a week ago, when we came in at half-time in the first leg at the Lane 2-0 up, only for Arsenal to pull back two crucial goals in the second half. As Martin pointed out, ultimately, that cost us. "It was 3-3 on aggregate and that's not bad, the problem was that we gave away a 2-0 lead in the first leg at home," said Martin. "That is what we've got to learn - if you are playing two legs, in hindsight perhaps you should protect that lead. In two legs, 2-2 at home is not a good result." As for the second leg, Martin added: "The scenario was good - they scored without creating a lot of chances because at 0-0 it was no problem. "We scored at an ideal moment. I felt they were a bit worried and we could so something in the first few minutes of extra time. Then Ricardo Rocha slipped and couldn't block Aliadiere's shot for 2-1, we looked tired and couldn't press them again. "It was close - last season we drew twice with Arsenal but after the 3-0 defeat here earlier in the season, we really wanted to put things straight.
