Adel Taarabt said he has been pleased with the progress he has made in the short time he has been at Spurs- both on and off the pitch. Adel joined the Club on loan from Lens in January at just 17 - agreement has since been reached to make the transfer permanent - and, although moving to a new country at such a young age can provide a few shocks, the weather was certainly not one of them, despite being raised in the warmer climes of Marseille. “Lens is in the north of France so it is the same weather as here. I have never had a problem playing in the rain,” said the youngster. “I have been use to living away from my family from a young age. At 11 years old I left to go and play for the French national team in competitions abroad, and lived away from them when I went to Lens. It is actually easier to travel from Marseille to London, than it is from Marseille to Lens.” “When I first arrived here I was kind of scared of the experience but now I feel very settled. The Club is lovely and very family-orientated and obviously that has helped me as well. I have also learnt some English which is good and want to improve next year even more.” Having just turned 18 and now content in his new surroundings, Adel is aiming to increase his first-team game time next season. The teenager impressed in his two substitute appearances in the Premier League for us last season, as well as on the training ground, leading to Manager Martin Jol to describe him as ‘a big talent’. “My first six months have gone well,” considered Adel. “I am very happy. I came on twice against West Ham and Chelsea and I was a sub in the UEFA Cup as well. “I hope next year will be even better. I love being in England and being with Spurs and I hope that the fans will get to see more of me next season and in years to come.
