As he prepares for his 10th year as a professional at Spurs, Ledley King
admits it's 'a special feeling' to have progressed through the Academy ranks
and captained the club to Wembley glory.
Ledley lived every schoolboy's dream of walking up the famous steps to
collect a trophy after our memorable win against Chelsea in the League Cup
Final in February.
And he has a message for our latest intake of Academy players - work hard and
you'll get your chance.
Ledley, 27, joined the club as a trainee in July, 1997 before signing
professional forms in July, 1998 and made his first team debut as a
substitute against Liverpool at Anfield in May, 1999.
He said: "I can't speak for anyone else but being at a club for such a long
time, of course you have that special feeling.
"You grow up watching the first team players and to become one is something I
suppose not a lot of young players do, especially then staying at one club
for such a long time. It's a special thing for me.
"The club has always produced players whether or not they've eventually moved
on.
"Jamie O'Hara is the latest to come through the ranks and he's done superbly.
"There are plenty of quality players in the Academy at the moment and if they
work hard, I'm sure they'll get their chance."
