A.I.: Chemistry is not there

OKLAHOMA CITY -- At first, Allen Iverson was at a loss for what is wrong with
the Pistons.
The team is going through its first four-game losing streak since January
2005 after Friday's 89-79 loss to the Thunder.
The Pistons are 22-16 with Western Conference contender New Orleans visiting
tonight.
"I don't know what it is," said Iverson, who scored all 14 points in the
first half. "As talented as we are, and we're like 28th in the league in
scoring?
"I don't see how you can have this many great scorers and be at the bottom of
the scoring in the league."
Actually, the team is 27th, but Iverson had a point.
"And then you look at our roster ... the only thing you can attribute it to
is chemistry," he said. "It's just the chemistry is not there."
A teammate agrees with Iverson's assessment.
"You can see that from the outside," Antonio McDyess said. "I don't know what
it's going to take to get it going."
A week ago, the Pistons had won seven straight, but the team hasn't played
well since the return of Rip Hamilton from a slight left groin tear after an
eight-game absence -- igniting talk that coach Michael Curry should bring
either Iverson or Hamilton off the bench and start another big man alongside
Rasheed Wallace.
Before the game, Curry said he was still perusing the possibility of starting
a big lineup.
"We look at doing what is best for the team and the organization to put
ourselves in the position to be really good," Curry said. "We're constantly
looking at all the different options."
As for Iverson, he is still keeping the faith.
"I think it will happen," Iverson said. "We just struggling right now."
STUCK ON THE BENCH:
Backup power forward Jason Maxiell appears to be in Curry's doghouse as he
received his second consecutive DNP-coach's decision against the Thunder.
And that's saying something since everybody else played in the game that was
in garbage time in the closing minutes of the Thunder's 10-point victory.
Maxiell, who is in his fourth season and signed a contract extension before
the season, admitted to frustration before the game, but is trying to stay
positive.
"It's coming to a point in my career where it's getting old to me," Maxiell
said. "I'm coming up on my fourth year already.
"It's getting to the point where I would like some consistency and see where
it leads."
NOTEBOOK:
Point guard Rodney Stuckey had his worst game in a while with three points on
1-for-10 shooting. ... Wallace missed the Friday morning shoot-around because
he wasn't feeling well, but he was better later and got the starting nod.
Curry said Wallace called and said he was ill and he thought shoot-around was
at 10:45 a.m. (the bus left the team hotel at 9:45) when it was scheduled for
10.
Since Wallace called to let Curry know, he will not be fined.
