Let's wait to judge A.I.'s coping skills

Allen Iverson has averaged 27.1 points per game in his career -- fifth-best
in NBA history. Of course he doesn't want to come off the bench. Neither
would the four players above him (Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, LeBron
James and Elgin Baylor). (Jordan actually did come off the bench for most of
his final season with the Wizards, but he still averaged 37 minutes per game.)
So I understand people's skepticism about Iverson's attitude when he returns
from a back injury. As I wrote recently, I think Iverson's ego is what kept
him in the starting lineup so long -- the Pistons wanted to tread carefully
around him. Rip Hamilton could handle a benching better, so he got benched.
Skepticism is fine. But let's not actually complain that Iverson won't handle
this well until, you know, he doesn't handle it well. He always has played
hard, and I believe he always has wanted to win. He just plays a certain way,
and it's very difficult to win that way. And he is stubborn enough -- and has
had enough success -- that he wants to keep trying his way.
We'll see if the light goes on now. The Pistons are playing a lot better
without Iverson than they did with him. Even he should be able to see that.
And while Iverson probably can't change his playing style now, he might at
least recognize that he fits better with the second group. Iverson loves to
run, and in the half-court game he dominates the ball -- even when he doesn't
end up shooting, he tends to eat up a chunk of the shot clock.
That won't work with guys like Tayshaun Prince, Rasheed Wallace and Antonio
McDyess, who expect to get touches and prefer the half-court game.
But it can absolutely work with guys like Amir Johnson and Jason Maxiell --
young, athletic players who love to run and rebound. Johnson and Maxiell
would have fit on Iverson's most successful team, the 2001 76ers. That team
was full of role players who could let Iverson be Iverson.
I don't know if Iverson will see it that way. He might be miserable. But he
is in a contract year, he has never won a title, and the Pistons clearly need
him coming off the bench.
Let's see how he handles it. It might actually be fun to watch.

其實我也蠻期待AI帶領活塞的板凳打打看,最少他可以有更多的持球與投籃的機會...
不知大家看法如何? 我在想只要AI能有無限開火權,當隊上第六人也沒什麼不好的XD
