The Hoyas have been a leader in the Big East since the conference got it's start in 1979. When someone mentions Georgetown most people think of their famous head coach John Thompson Jr.. Thompson was able to draw many youngsters, with incredible talent, to the Washington D.C. school. The basketball team hasn't quite been the same since he left in 1998. Dikembe Mutombo: Born in Congo, then known as Zaire, Mutombo came to the United States after being recruited by Thompson. He would play three season for the Hoyas from 1988-1991. In that time the 7' 2" center became known as a defensive specialist. He was a good on the boards, but he was better at blocking shots. He averaged over four blocks a game in his junior and senior years. He became famous for his finger wag after he blocked a shot, something he brought with him to the NBA. Although he is known for his defense, he did have a field goal percentage of over 64%. After college Mutombo would play 17 seasons in the NBA. He was taken with the fourth overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in 1991. 不是AI 略過 4. Alonzo Mourning: Mourning's college career overlapped with that of Mutombo's as he played for the Hoyas from 1988-1992. Mourning was a two time All-American. More of a scorer than Mutombo, Mourning averaged 16.7 points per game. He is second in Hoyas history in blocked shots. A decent rebounder he had over 8 boards per game. Mourning would also enjoy a lengthy NBA career, 17 seasons. He was drafted second overall, by the Charlotte Hornets, in 1992. 還不是AI 略過 3. Eric "Sleepy" Floyd: The leading scorer in Georgetown history with 2,304 point, Floyd played at Georgetown from 1978-1982. He was part of the team that lost to North Carolina in the NCAA Finals in 1982. A guard known for his smooth stroke, he was an All-American in 1982. Over his four seasons he averaged 17.7 points per contest. He played 13 seasons in the NBA before retiring in 1995. 也不是AI略過 2. Patrick Ewing: The team's all time leading rebounder and shot blocker, Ewing was a star from the beginning, averaging nearly 13 points a game his freshman season. The seven footer from Jamaica helped lead the Hoyas to the team's only NCAA Championship in 1984. Ewing also won a gold medal in the Olympics later that year. He played in three NCAA championship games in four years. He won the Naismith Award in 1985 as the best college basketball player in the country. After college he was drafted number one overall by the New York Knicks. He was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008. 大猩猩仍不是AI略過 1. Allen Iverson: One of the most hyped players coming into college, he lived up to expectations and more. He spent just two seasons at Georgetown, but in that time it was clear he was a cut above the competition. His scoring average is over four points higher than any other player in Hoyas history. Iverson also averaged more steals than any other Hoya. He was an All-American his sophomore season, one in which he averaged 25 points per game. He was named Big East defensive player of the year in both 1994 and 1995. It was clear to all that after two seasons he was ready to go pro. He was the first overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He would go on to be an 11 time all star and the league's most valuable player in 2001. 1.
