The Spanish outfit are keen on the 2006 World Cup player and are understood to have made an official approach. However, their proposed swoop has been complicated by the Nerazzurri's desire to sign their Argentine ace. Having lost Juan Sebastian Veron, who has returned to his first club Estudiantes, the Nerazzurri see Riquelme as his heir. But Villarreal, who have also been paired with Inter's Nicolas Burdisso, are not keen on the idea of losing the star who was so crucial in their Champions League push last term. Meanwhile, the list of clubs interested in Materazzi continues to grow according to reports around Europe.
