Ivanisevic targets 2004 Olympics

AFP[ SUNDAY, JANUARY 19, 2003 ] ZAGREB, Croatia:
Injury-stricken former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic said on Sunday he
hoped to compete in the 2004 Athens Olympics and to carry the Croatian flag
once again.
The 31-year-old from Split, who has not competed in over a year after undergoing
shoulder surgery in May 2002, told the daily Vjesnik competing in Athens had
become a goal for him.
Ivanisevic carried the flag for Croatia at the opening ceremony of the 1992
Barcelona Games and also competed in Atlanta, but missed the Sydney Olympics
with shoulder problems.
And he admitted he would like "to carry the Croatian flag in Athens and compete
in another Olympic tournament." Ivanisevic will return to the courts Monday at
Heilbronn, Germany, to test his form for a possible place in the Davis Cup tie
against the United States in Zagreb on February 7.
But the Croat, who won the 2001 Wimbledon title after being a runner-up three times, said that for the moment competing in a singles match was "science fiction" despite the fact his arm was improving daily.
