Date of birth: 9 July 1979 Position: Defender Current Club: Basel (SUI) Defender who has been playing club football in Europe in recent seasons. First donned his nation’s colours at the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship. He has also represented Japan at the 2000 Olympics, the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the 2004 Asian Nations Cup, and the last three editions of the FIFA Confede- rations Cup. Spent little over a year at French side Marseille before moving to Swiss outfit FC Basel in January 2006.
