Italy full-back Gianluca Zambrotta has dedicated World Cup victory
to Juventus team manager and close friend Gianluca Pessotto.
The latter remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital
following an apparent suicide attempt in Turin last month and
Zambrotta was keen to make him a part of the celebrations.
“Clearly the victory is dedicated to Pessotto,”
said the former Bari man who had played alongside Pessotto
at club level since 1999.
Zambrotta說：「這場勝利很明顯就是要獻給 Pessotto。」
“He's going through a difficult moment of his life and
this is more important than a World Cup. He is our friend
and we hope to sit at his bedside telling him in person
that this was all for him.”
「他正在經歷人生中最艱難的時刻，這比世界盃更重要，
他是我們的朋友，我們希望能坐在他身旁親口告訴他這一切都是為了他。」
Last night's Berlin encounter against France was somewhat of
a Juventus affair with eight Bianconeri on the pitch in total.
Yet Zambrotta insists that everyone was just focused on country
rather than club issues for the evening.
“We just said hello to the other Juventini before kick-off,
but club allegiances are put on the shelf for the duration,” he added.
談到比賽前，Zambotta說：「我們只有在開賽前跟法國的 JUVE球員打了招呼，
不過對球會的忠誠只有在那段時間被擱到了一旁。」
In something of an ironic twist, Italy were handed the trophy
when Juve's David Trezeguet – the man who netted the Golden Goal
in the Euro 2000 Final – missed his spot-kick by hitting the bar.
“Trezeguet punished us in 2000 and missed this time,”
continued the Como-born player. “But that's football and life.
Zambrotta談 Trezeguet罰失點球，他說：
「Trezeguet在2000年懲罰了我們而這次踢失了，不過這就是足球，這就是人生。」
“It has been a long hard season, so obviously we were all
rather tired after 120 minutes, but we gave what little
we had left to take the victory.”

不過我們仍把僅存的一點力量用上就此贏得了勝利。」

Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro has kept to his promise
by winning the World Cup for Juventus team manager Gianluca Pessotto.
The Azzurri have dedicated their Germany 2006 victory to
the 35-year-old who is still in a serious condition in hospital
after an apparent suicide attempt last month.
Italy returned to the peninsula last night and a number of
the Giro Azzurro wasted little time in visiting Pessotto this afternoon.
Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluca Zambrotta, Ciro Ferrara and
physical trainer Claudio Gaudino all made the trip
to the Molinette hospital on Tuesday.
Cannavaro、Zambrotta、Ferrara、Gaudino都去了。
The quartet brought the World Cup trophy with them
which they showed to the former Juventus stopper.
帶上了世界盃要給 Pessotto看。
Cannavaro, Zambrotta and Ferrara all entered the facility via a side door
to avoid the fans outside of the Molinette hospital
who were expecting a visit today.
It proved to be an emotional moment for Pessotto
when he saw his former teammates with the Cup.
Pessotto看到隊友帶著獎盃前來情緒激動。
“There was a big smile mixed with a few tears,
it was certainly a moment of great joy,” said doctor Pierpaolo Donadio.
醫生說：「Pessotto帶著淚光露出了大大的微笑，那肯定是個非常愉悅的時刻。」
Pessotto was already visited during the tournament by Zambrotta,
Ferrara and Alex Del Piero who flew in from Germany just hours
after his fall from a window at Juve's headquarters.
