Here's what he had to say... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you were to give yourself a percentage for how ready you are? Webber: "I haven't really thought about that. I feel good and hopeful, and I expect good things. I guess I'm in the higher percentiles of whatever there could be." How about 92%? Webber: "Ok, we'll say that (laughs). But you know, I'm definitely listening to Coach's instructions about how long I can play. You've seen guys like Jerry Stackhouse and Allan Houston who've had similar injuries and have had to take themselves out. So my thing is that it's already going to be a transition period for the team having me come back, so I don't want to make it inconsistent by coming back and re- injuring and having to miss a game and having to put the team through that. So I’m thinking positive and praying and I’m just gonna try to do my best." Which aspect of the game is gonna be the hardest to play? Webber: "I think there's going to be a lot of tough things. You know that I have a lot of expectations on myself. I think it’ll be a tough adjustment period. This is the longest in my life since playing basketball that I've gone without playing—approximately 10 months. I think one of my biggest things is to not let the crowd get me so tight that I try to dunk from halfcourt—the energy from ARCO gets you pumped up enough. I want to use that energy to the good, not energy that you can't control." Have you talked about minutes with Rick? Webber: "We've had a chance to talk and our concerns are the same—just that I come in and be myself and play my game, but also realizing that I've had a chance to watch our team and I don't want to mess up our flow. My main thing is for us to continue winning, not for me to come back and try to average a million points but to stay within myself. To be aggressive , but make sure we’re still on the right pace." So you haven't set any definitive minutes? Webber: "That's the good thing about Coach, he's a player, he was a player , and he still is a player. So he knows that I want to play every minute of the game. I think my wind is fine, but in reality it may not be that way, so I'm gonna trust his judgement on how much I can play. It's not like we're in the playoffs right now, so we have to be smart and make sure I get better as time goes on. I'm confident in Coach. We've been together a long time, he know me and he knows when I'm pushing it and when I don't want to admit it. I'm just gonna leave it up to him." Can you compare what tomorrow night will feel like to anything else? Webber: "Hmm. Not really. I've never had a child or any of those things. Maybe getting drafted into the NBA. There is so much going on right now that I don't really realize it, I know it's gonna hit me any second here that I'm gonna come back and play. I just know I'm excited but I haven't had the goosebumps because this atmosphere is so light here with the team making fun and making jokes. Butterflies are good though because they make you push. I know the'’re gonna come, I just don't know when." Is coming back a good birthday gift?
