Coming off a wondrous postseason, Wells was considered among the top free agents. But Wells and Phillips reportedly turned down a five-year, $36 million offer from the Kings. Phillips said he was negotiating with six teams, but no deal was consummated. Wells has informed the Kings that he would like to return, a notion Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie said was impractical because payroll is approaching the luxury tax threshold. Also, they signed John Salmons to replace Wells. Bonzi 就跟 Al Harrington 一樣 , 把他的經紀人 William Phillips 開除了因為季後賽有著令人振奮的表現 , Bonzi 認為自己是今年自由市場最頂級的球員 , 但是他和他的經紀人拒絕了國王所提供的五年三千六百萬的合約 , 而他的經紀人 Phillips 聲稱與六支球隊有接洽 , 但沒有任何結果.
