The Kings have the fifth-best chance of landing the first overall pick in the lottery on May 30. But luck hasn't been on their side – they've been leapfrogged in the lottery in each of the last three seasons. With a core of young players still finding their way and approximately $15 million in salary cap space, Petrie discusses the 2011-12 season, the future of the Kings and his own future with the franchise as he heads into another offseason looking for answers. 國王連續第六年沒進季後賽，派崔只能乖乖研究選秀。國王抽中狀元籤的機率是第5高，但是前幾年一直被人超車。距離新資上限還有150萬，派崔回顧今年球季及未來。 What were your expectations for the group, and where did it fall in line with those expectations? I think we all felt … going into the season, even with the disruption of the lockout, that we had done some things statistically and roster position-wise that would improve us from a year ago, based on historical performance numbers. We ended up winning 22 games, and if you prorate that, it's 27 games in an 82-game season, which is at best nominal improvement as far as the team is concerned. We had all the factors that every team had to deal with, the injuries and whatnot. I think we had individual players who grew, but we've still got to find a way for the team as a whole to start winning more games. Well, that depends on what your options are. We have some very talented young players, and they haven't been able to win yet at a higher rate. But most of them are 25 and younger. I think it is a process. Putting other veteran pieces in the mix is something you need to look at, but ultimately to be a really good team, you have to have one or two All-Stars. And I think we have players who can become All-Stars, but they've got to improve individually, and the team has to improve for that kind of recognition to set in. I don't think you want to end up with a whole team of older, veteran role players, either. Q:你要怎麼平衡年輕球隊的成長的需求跟引入老將來加速這個過程的需求? I thought he made progress this year, especially in terms of moving up to small forward, playing more at two guard at times. It's interesting in terms of efficiency – his most efficient positions were at two (shooting guard) and three (small forward). But he really does have a chance to be a legitimate three-position player. Those types of players are really valuable. I think he's committed to a summer of really trying to upgrade some of the weaknesses in his game. And with all that, he's still averaging 17 points a game and improving. He's running the court better. He's started throwing the ball ahead better in transition. I think it was a season, even though nobody likes the losing, (that) opened up his eyes to other parts of the game and how he can be effective. As somebody who would just be a junior in college, he's basically a 20 (points)-and-10 (rebounds) player now, but he's got areas where he can still improve a lot. But he made a lot of progress, staying on the court longer, and you can see the balance between shooting facing shots and doing things on the block. He still needs to figure out a way to finish a little better. Emotionally, he loves to play, and if he can continue to try to channel that emotion into the game, that will help him, too. There's still just a tremendous amount of upside there. He's our most complete offensive player – he can make long shots, he's got a pull-up game, he can attack the rim, he's a great free-throw shooter. He has a knack for making big shots, and he's a scorer – he's just a natural scorer. … It's just too bad he missed 15 games with injuries. Jason (Thompson), once he became a starter, showed he's a good complement to DeMarcus, (and) doesn't necessarily need the ball to score. He's going to run the floor, he gives you another passer out there as a big guy, and he started finishing better this year. … So he's somebody we will definitely give the qualifying offer to and look to re-sign. After that, it's Donté (Greene), and we really haven't sat down and discussed the rest of the roster. Donté had some really good stretches for us, too. We'll have to wait and see how the draft order sorts out and see to what extent it becomes a potential allocation of resources. Q:看著你手上有的自由球員，你怎麼評定他們的價值? I don't think there was doubt about his talent because in college at Louisville he was close to a triple-double guy in a lot of games. He's extremely athletic, and he's got a pretty good basketball IQ. Obviously it did not work well in New Jersey or Houston, but (coach) Keith (Smart) and I, when we brought him in, just said, 'You're starting fresh, and that's the way it's going to be.' I think he recognized and kept trying to learn and play within the system as it currently exists. He's a young man who's committed to figuring it out. I don't worry about his shooting too much. His rookie statistics are almost identical to Peja's (Stojakovic). Points per game, field-goal percentage, three-point percentage, minutes per game. They're almost the same. … Defensively, he needs to really focus on trying to square guys up better and figure out how to cut them off at the point of attack a little better. … I think he's still … figuring it out. We had Pooh (Jeter) last year, and Isaiah obviously went way beyond that. He's just a top-level competitor. He gives us a player who we can count on. We need to score the ball at a better rate. … The young guys who have now played two, three years in the league – what they've learned about the game and their commitment to each other has to start kicking in. How much longer do you want to stay in this business? I honestly don't think about that. I think about next year and what we do. Whatever the future holds after that, personally or collectively, I really don't spend much time pondering that. I would really like to see the team get on an upward trajectory, regardless of whether I keep doing this or doing something else.
