-------------------說完廢話,文章在這裡啦----------------------------- JAMAL JUICED FOR CHALLENGE By DAVE CURTIS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IN GUARD KNICKS TRUST: Ex-Bull Jamal Crawford is making smooth transition into Knicks' backcourt and is excited to be in situation where he can play some meaningful late-season games. November 1, 2004 -- New Knick Jamal Crawford says the annual preseason pressure feels different this fall. Crawford no longer has to carry his team's playoff hopes on his lanky frame, the way the Bulls asked their best player to do last year. Instead, as he sees it, Crawford's challenge is to lead his team to wins rather than lead it in points. "However I fit in is fine," the 24-year-old said yesterday, three days before his Knicks' regular-season debut against Minnesota at the Garden. "I've been in a losing situation for four years. This team has a chance to do something big, not just make the playoffs but advance. It's a prospect that's exciting." That goal, grand as it may seem as November dawns, will grow more realistic the better Crawford plays. Lenny Wilkens loves his slashing skills, and his long arms and fast feet team to make him a tough perimeter defender. Wilkens already has pushed his pupil to improve his shot selection. Although he's a candidate to leave the court last after practice, hanging out to work on the three-point shot that fell 32 percent of the time in 2003-04, the coach wants Crawford to take the ball to the basket. "Understand this," Wilkens said. "He's going to get better as the year goes on, as he gets more and more familiar with our system and what we're doing and his teammates and all of that." Chalk up part of Crawford's smooth switch to New York to fellow backcourt starter and Knick leader Stephon Marbury. The Olympian spent some of his summer helping Crawford adjust to his new hometown, then spent some of his fall helping him adjust to his new offense. The cohesion must continue, though, when Allan Houston hobbles back into the rotation. The ninth-year Knick, who likely will return from a knee injury around Thanksgiving, figures to eventually battle Crawford for a starting spot. For now, Crawford will play major minutes, allowing Houston, who'll probably be placed on the injured list today, to heal at his own pace. "It's a plus in that we have somebody," Wilkens said. "When you know that you're the key guy, there's a lot of pressure on you to get back. At least he feels [we're] adequate enough where, 'I can go on my own timetable and come back and be ready to help us win.' " Crawford, who has 244 regular-season games but zero playoffs appearances, agreed. Several times yesterday, he stressed that his wish for a winning team trumps any individual aspirations. And that, it seems, is what may be most different about this season for the new Knick. "This year," Crawford said, "I have a chance to be a really big piece of the puzzle and win."
