WHAT IT MEANS: If what happened Wednesday night was any indication, Carmelo
Anthony's right knee seems to be just fine.
Anthony scored 21 points in 33 minutes, hitting seven of 14 shots in the
Knicks' 106-94 win over Orlando.
But he looked fine on Wednesday, getting plenty of lift on his jump shot and
displaying a quick first step against the struggling Magic.

the same knee he had ACL surgery on last May.
Shumpert landed badly with 25 seconds left in the first half after driving
the ball, banging his left knee that was operated on in early May and
motioning to the bench.
Knicks trainers monitored Shumpert's knee in the second half and decided he
should not return to the game. But the Knicks said his absence was
precautionary. We will have more details after the game.
The Knicks can ill afford to lose Shumpert with so many players banged up.
Shumpert started for the Knicks at small forward on Wednesday.

BIG NIGHT FOR BENCH: The Knicks' reserves had a huge night at just the right
time.
With the Knicks starting Kenyon Martin and Pablo Prigioni due to injuries,
they needed offense from the bench -- and they got it.
New York's reserves scored a combined 51 points.
J.R. Smith had 22 points on 8-for-16 shooting, Steve Novak had 11 and Chris
Copeland added nine.
Martin did a more than serviceable job as the Knicks' starting center,
finishing with 11 points and three rebounds.

without Tyson Chandler. It held the Magic to 29 percent shooting from beyond
the arc. The Knicks also forced Orlando into 16 turnovers and scored 16
points off of those turnovers.

game.

you’re playing in New York, everything is put under a microscope.”

ailing roster -- for now.

Woodson was asked on Wednesday if he'd still sign the same players again if
he had the chance to reconsider.
"Absolutely. I will never back off that. Absolutely," Woodson said.
"I think we made the right move. We’re still sitting where we need to be at

Martin's answer with a smirk: “Nah, Nah. We’ve been wearing headbands for
years. I’ve been wearing one sleeve."

Martin continues: "I kind of fell on my elbow in the Golden State game, so I
had to wear another sleeve."

I begin to ask my follow up question. "Was it..." Martin interrupts me. "It
ain’t because of fashion. Trust me."
The reporters all laugh. Martin finishes: "I don’t like Melo like that. I
love him as a teammate, but I ain’t trying to dress like him.”

"I took a step to explode and go up to the rim and felt it pop,” he said
afterward. "Last time I felt a pop, I was out eight months. I was nervous and
more scared than anything."

New York can exhale, though. According to the Knicks' training staff, the
tweak was a false alarm. Shumpert will be evaluated for a second time on
Thursday.

"They said if they needed me I could go back out, but they didn't need me so
I rested," he said. “While I was sitting on the bench, I felt fine. I was
more scared than anything. I am fine now. Hopefully it all goes well
