Gerard Pique Believes Spain Should Not Be Considered Favourites
Following Switzerland Defeat

Spain defender Gerard Pique has stated that his side's 1-0 defeat to
Switzerland in their opening World Cup match should dismiss any talk of la
Furia Roja being tournament favourites.
The Euro 2008 winners had been tipped by many pundits to emerge from South
Africa triumphant, but their campaign started off in the worst possible way as
a Gelson Fernandes goal handed Ottmar Hizfeld's team a famous win.
Speaking to journalists after the loss, Pique labelled Spain's favourites tag
as nonsense.
"From now on we can leave behind the nonsense that we are favourites to win the
World Cup. We have tried to exclude this from our thoughts, because it is not
real.
"Spain have never even been to the final. It's true that we are a very good
squad, but are we favourites....no."
Pique also stated that Spain had played well in the match, but were unable to
find the goal that could have changed the shape of the game.
"We created chances and in the second half we should have perhaps scored a goal.
"This is an example of how any team can beat you, and unfortunately it has
happened to us."
