The next closest active players to Bryant in scoring are
Kevin Garnett (24,535 points, 17th all-time)
Dirk Nowitzki (24,134 points, 19th all-time)
Ray Allen (23,152 points, 23rd all-time)
Paul Pierce (23,149 points, 25th all-time)
Tim Duncan (22,880 points, 26th all-time)
To think that Bryant will be the only 30,000-point scorer of this generation
is unreasonable, though. Kevin Durant just turned 24 years old, and he has
10,481 career points, while LeBron James is going to turn 28 this month, and
he has 19,442 career points. If James keeps up his career scoring pace of
27.6 PPG, by the time he reaches 34, he will have over 32,000 points. Durant
is averaging 26.3 PPG in his career, and if that holds true for the next 10
seasons, he will have over 31,000 points.
