REUTERS - Liverpool Football Club announced that they would like to build a new stadium on Stanley Park - less than 300 yards from the present stadium. Plans for a new stadium, which would hold 55,000 supporters, have been presented to Liverpool City Council after the club investigated no fewer than seven different sites - including expanding the present ground - over the last two years. The new stadium will cost between ￡60m and ￡70m to build and could even be ready for the start of the 2005 season. Original plans to construct a new 70,000-seater stadium could have cost the club ￡120m and a decision was taken by the club to not let the cost of building a new ground interfere with Gerard Houllier’s ability to compete for the best players to put out on the pitch.
