Liverpool Under-18's held on to claim this season's FA Youth Cup with a 3-2 aggregate result after a 2-0 second-leg defeat to Manchester City Under-18's. The Reds were in pole position to win the cup after an impressive 3-0 first-leg win, but City's youngsters still had the matter of a second leg at Eastlands to turn the tie around. In need of goals, the home side started well and had chances through Micah Richards and Paul Marshall early on, while Ched Evens just failed to get his toe to a low Karl Moore cross from the left. City claimed the opening goal on 32 minutes when Daniel Sturridge unleashed an unstoppable shot past Liverpool goalkeeper David Roberts to make it 3-1 on aggregate by half time. The second half saw City continuing to press the young Merseysiders and Sturridge again was on hand to make the tie a real contest with a second goal. A left-footed half-volleyed finish on 56 minutes left Steve Heighway's Reds with a struggle to hold on to their slim one-goal lead.
