The 3-0 home victory over Bolton was very impressive as Robbie Keane netted a brace, but the best was yet to come as they destroyed Newcastle at St James' Park. The 5-1 scoreline flattered the Magpies but as poor as they were, Rafa Benitez's side were equally good. Steven Gerrard pulled the strings and scored twice, while Sami Hyypia, Ryan Babel and Xabi Alonso also found the target. Player of the weekend - Steven Gerrard Continuing the Liverpool theme, their skipper enjoyed a superb festive period, setting up two goals against Bolton and then tormenting Newcastle two days later. He has now netted eight times in the league this season and his two strikes at St James' Park were typically superb.
