Liverpool have secured the signature of Charlton's highly rated teenage
midfielder Jonjo Shelvey for an initial fee of ￡1.7m.
"His signing is part of our long-term strategic recruitment plan," Liverpool
managing director Christian Purslow told the club's official website.
"Jonjo is an exciting young England international. We all look forward to
welcoming him to Melwood [Liverpool's training ground]."
Shelvey has made 27 appearances this season as Charlton push for promotion.
A product of the academy at The Valley, he has been linked with several
Premier League clubs since becoming the youngest ever first-team player to
turn out for the south Londoners at the age of 16 years and 59 days.
