Twins' top 5 picks

FIRST ROUND
.No.20: Trevor Plouffe, SS, Crespi High, Northridge, Calif., 6-2, 170:
The most impressive thing is his arm. As a pitcher, he has hit 91 miles
per hour on the radar gun. The Twins are among the teams who think Plouffe's
best spot is the middle infield, where he can take advantage of his offensive
abilities.
.No.22: Glen Perkins, LHP, Gophers, 6-0, 190:
Good fastball, good curve, good changeup. Perkins can hit 92 mph on the
radar gun and is considered one of the more polished pitchers in the draft.
The Twins were not going to let a quality local prospect go by.
.No.25: Kyle Waldrop, RHP, Farragut High, Knoxville, Tenn., 6-5, 205:
Waldrop, unlike many young pitchers, understands the importance of changing
speeds and hitting spots. He has a feel for his changeup and a good curveball.
At 6-4 and 190 pounds, he has a frame that can fill out.
SUPPLEMENTAL ROUND
.No.35: Matt Fox, RHP, Central Florida, 6-2, 192:
Fox went 11-2, 2.02 this season, his first full season not being a two-way
player. He has got some things that need to be smoothed out, but the payoff
could be big. He has the basic four-pitch mix (fastball, curve, slider and
changeup) and has hit 96 mph on the gun.
.No.39: Jay Rainville, RHP, Bishop Hendricken High, Pawtucket, R.I., 6-3, 230:
A flat-out power pitcher with a fastball that reaches 90 to 94 mph. His
mechanics on his other pitches need to be smoothed out. Considered one of
the best high school pitchers ever out of Rhode Island.
