Mailbag: Youth movement on the way? Beat reporter Kelly Thesier answers Twins fans' questions By Kelly Thesier / MLB.com 該是換年輕人上來的時候了嗎? In the two weeks since the last edition of the mailbag, things haven't exactly been going smoothly in Twins Territory. The calls to get Matt Garza and Kevin Slowey in the Twins rotation have been ringing heavily since Spring Training. But starting pitching hadn't exactly been an issue for the Twins -- that is, until recently. While Ponson was a relatively cheap investment (one year for $1 million), Ortiz is earning about three times that (one year, $3.1 million). The team thought it had gotten Ortiz past his "big-inning" issues, but clearly that isn't the case. I don't think giving up would be the correct term in this case, Nick. Venafro was one of three lefties the Twins had at Triple-A Rochester, and once Ricky Barrett and Carmen Cali came off the disabled list, Venafro's time on the mound was drastically reduced. From the musings I've heard, Venafro actually requested a trade,so his contract was sold to Toronto. 我不認為這樣的推論正確，事實上Twins的3A裡有三隻左投(別忘了小李啊!) 而且一但Ricky Barrett和Carmen Cali從DL出來以後，Venafro的上場時間將更被壓縮 (剛去官網看，Cali好像被call up了) 消息指出，是Venafro自己要求交易的，所以我們就把他賣到Toronto啦下面這一段跟現在的狀況有點出入了本來是說在Reyes受傷的期間，只好讓Perkins來接替他的位置而且Reyes和Crain進DL更是大大銷減了牛棚的實力 Now, with Reyes possibly looking at a DL stint due to shoulder problems, the Twins will have to rely on Perkins as their sole lefty in the 'pen. Without a strong situational lefty at Rochester, the Twins will have to turn to Perkins to take over the role until Reyes is healthy. So far, Perkins has thrived in long stints but has yet to be given the situational lefty role. The injuries to Jesse Crain and Reyes clearly have weakened what was considered to be a stockpiled bullpen. And now, the Twins must hope for another young pitcher to emerge, much like Pat Neshek did last season.
