NEW YORK -- Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun declined to comment Monday about
two off-the-field matters related to his successful appeal of a suspension
during the offseason.
Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association announced Monday they
had mutually agreed to rescind Rockies catcher Eliezer Alfonzo's 100-game
suspension for a banned substance, saying in a statement that, "Alfonzo's
grievance challenging his suspension raised issues that were nearly identical
to those resolved in the Arbitration involving Ryan Braun."
That announcement came a few hours after The Associated Press reported that
MLB had fired Shayam Das, the independent arbitrator who cast the deciding
vote on a three-man panel that sustained Braun's appeal.
"I know nothing about the situation, so it's not for me to comment," Braun
said.
Das had been the league's permanent arbitrator since 1999.
