[新聞]桑德蘭有意引進愛爾蘭 曼城中場過高週薪成為障礙

The opportunity to captain Steve Bruce's Sunderland could lead Stephen
Ireland to turn his back on Manchester City, if he is willing to take a pay
cut, reports The Northern Echo.
Bruce needs to bolster his midfield after Lorik Cana surprisingly quit the
Stadium of Light for Galatasaray last week.
However the midfielder might have to take a pay cut, with Sunderland unlikely
to be able to match his current ￡80,000 a week salary.
Twenty three-year-old Ireland was limited to just 16 appearances last season
and could find regular football at Sunderland if the Black Cats can reach
City's ￡10million price tag for the midfielder, who only last year signed a
new five-year deal at the club.
Roberto Mancini has signed Yaya Toure and David Silva, signalling the door
for Ireland, who has also received attention from Aston Villa, who are lining
up a swap deal for James Milner.
Sunderland assistant manager Eric Black said: “It would be wonderful to
bring a player like Stephen Ireland to the club.
“I think everybody is aware how good a player he is, but it could be a long
shot, we have a certain level of salary which his probably exceeds.
“Stephen is a very gifted player and, of course, most of us would be
interested.
“He earns a hell of a lot of money and most of us are priced out of the
market.
“He’s a good player and I like him, but whether I can afford him, or get
him, is another matter.”
