Mailbag: Can Mariners win close ones? Beat reporter Jim Street answers Mariners fans' questions By Jim Street / MLB.com For the first time in four seasons, the Mariners reach the stretch run of the regular season competing for one of two available playoff spots -- the American League West championship and the Wild Card. The Tigers (20-15) were five games above .500 while the Orioles were the worst at 10-23. In the NL, the Diamondbacks were tops with a 27-16 record in one-run games, while the Phillies were just 8-19. The Mariners stranded 838 runners in their first 119 games, the eighth-highest total in the AL. Also, 13 of the 16 NL teams had stranded more runners than Seattle. 水兵目前一分差的戰績是21-17，AL領先 NL，則是小蛇27-16 Is it considered an unearned run if the pitcher is the one that makes the error allowing a run to score? -- Neil S., Issaquah, Wash. 投手失誤造成非自責分，算不算在頭上？ When a batter reaches base on an error, and the miscue leads to a run being scored, when it otherwise wouldn't have scored, it becomes an unearned run -- regardless who commits the error. So, yes it is an unearned run if the pitcher commits the error. Also, if a runner scores on a passed ball by the catcher, and would not have otherwise scored in the inning, it is an unearned run. However, it is an earned run if the runner scores on a wild pitch. However, if Ichiro finishes this season with 225 hits, he would have 1,579 hits in his seven-year MLB career -- an average of 226 hits per season. If he maintained that pace, he would need slightly more than six more full seasons to reach the 3,000-hit mark, making him close to 40 years of age. After much calculation, my guess is that he will reach the 3,000-hit plateau on June 26, 2014. If so, what is the amount, and would it be a viable option? -- Dave N., Kent, Wash. 2008年兒子會不會下船？ There is no buyout option in Sexson's contract. He is guaranteed $14 million in 2008, the final year of a four-year deal he signed as a free agent prior to the 2004 season. 2008年，我們還是得看兒子延長春訓因為四年前忘了簽不想看合約 In the third game in Baltimore, George Sherrill came into the game in the seven th inning and pitched to only two or three batters. He was replaced with a right-handed pitcher. Then he came in again in the eighth and closed out the game. I didn't think a player could enter the game twice. Rowland-Smith was replaced by right-hander Sean Green after facing one batter in that inning and Sherrill replaced Green with one out in the eighth inning. According to rule 6.07, "Anyone bat ting out of turn shall be called out, on appeal, when he fails to bat in his proper turn and another batter completes an at-bat in his place. When an improper batter becomes a runner, or makes an out, and the defensive team appeals to the umpire before the first pitch to the next batter of either team, or before any play or attempted play, the umpire shall (1) declare the proper batter out; and (2) nullify any advance or score made because of a ball batted by the improper batter or because of the improper batter's advance to first base on a hit, an error, a base on balls, a hit batter or otherwise.
