But with a farm system that cranks out talent year after year and only gets supplemented with trades like the one that sent Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit this week, you know that you’ll hear of enough of them soon. Catcher Brett Hayes is part of the next wave, and whether or not he’s with the Marlins when camp breaks this spring, the 2005 second-round draft pick will swim with the big Fish soon enough. 1. When can we expect to see you in the majors? Brett Hayes: That’s not up to me. All I can do is show up to spring training and be as prepared as I can be and hope for the best. Touching Base: Will this be your first spring training with the big team? BH: This will be my third. TB: OK. That’s right, because being a catcher they bring you in. BH: Yeah. TB: How is that when you go? BH: It’s very exciting. My first one, it was just a learning experience. My second one, last year, I didn’t really have a chance to make the club, but it was a good learning experience to know all the guys. This year, it seems like it’s progressing. There’s more and more opportunities, and hopefully I ’ll get to play a little more. But that’s not up to me and I’m just looking to have a good time and learn. 6th07m3x.jpg2. Who would you say your game is most like? BH: I’ve been compared to a Brad Ausmus, but I’m not a very big catcher. I’ m 200 pounds, 6-1. Not a ton of power, I’m more doubles, a gap-to-gap type guy. I don’t really know who to compare myself to, but I’m a quick catcher, I’ve got a little speed. At least I think I do. TB: Are you good speed for a catcher, or just good speed? BH: Good speed for a catcher. I don’t want to sit here and tell you I’ll be stealing 30 bags, but I’ll surprise you here and there. 3. Aside from making it to the majors and winning a World Series, what is one thing you’d like to accomplish in your career? BH: I’d like to become a major league All-Star. Being an All-Star shows that you’ve had a high level of play, and you get to play with the best of the best. So that’s something I’d like to accomplish other than a World Series. 4. What is the most fun thing about being in the minors? BH: Just being able to travel around and see all these cities for the first time. Going all over the country, other jobs, you wouldn’t be able to do that. You meet new people, just have a good experience. TB: What’s your favorite city that you’ve been to? BH: Oh, man. My favorite city? I think the coolest city in terms of where the stadium was at and the surroundings would have to be Jacksonville. You’re downtown. That was really cool, a really nice stadium, just a real cool city. 5. Who is one pitcher you’re dying to catch or dying to face in the majors someday? BH: In all of baseball? TB: Let’s start with who you’d like to hit against. BH: Anyone in the major leagues. If I’m in the major leagues, then whoever I ’m hitting. I look forward to hitting off that guy. Everyone in the major leagues is someone who’s proven himself and has something special. So I think any pitcher would be someone I look forward to hitting off of. TB: And when you get to spring training, who is a guy you’d really like to have throw to you? BH: Well, this is recent news, but the guy we got from the Tigers, Andrew Miller. Big lefthanded pitcher. I’ve played against him and I’d love to catch him. Another guy that I don’t know if he’s going to be in big league camp is Burke Badenhop. He’s another guy in the trade, and he was on my Arizona Fall League team. Just nasty, I love him. I look forward to catching him. 6. Being with the Marlins, they’re very active in bringing in younger guys. How do you feel about that as a guy who’s competing with these guys to move up and get closer? BH: The way I look at it is I can only worry about how I play and my performance on the field. If I start worrying about moving up and when it will happen, my performance on the field will definitely go down. So I just worry about how I play, and God willing, it’s meant to be. TB: At the same time, the organization is willing to give a young guy a chance. BH: Yeah. It’s definitely a positive thing knowing that they’ll bring young guys up. But again, the more you think about that, the more you get distracted, so you really can’t think about that. 7. Who was your favorite player growing up? BH: My favorite player would have to be Brett Butler of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Maybe because we have the same name, but I like the way he played. Played hard, little scrappy guy. That’s what I was when I was younger, then I became a catcher. TB: Were you a Dodger fan growing up? BH: Yeah. My dad was drafted by the Royals, so I was also a distant Royals fan. 7vq16m6j.jpg8. What ballpark have you not yet been to that you would like to see? BH: Well, the one that would be a dream to play would be Dodger Stadium. Growing up, watching all those Dodger games, to be on the field and play would be the one thing I’d love to do. 9: Complete this sentence: I am the only player in professional baseball who… BH: Oh, man. I’m not a very interesting guy. I like to do a lot of things that everyone else does. So… I don’t know. I can’t answer that for you. TB: Oh, there’s something unique about everybody. BH: As a catcher, I work with all my pitchers. As a hitter… off the field, I ’m always with my teammates, hanging out. There’s nothing that I do out of the ordinary. TB: You don’t have the high score on a video game or anything like that? BH: I love to play the game Halo, but I’m definitely one of the worst players on our team, so I can’t say I’m any good at that. TB: Are you the worst on the team? BH: Hmm… let’s say this: I am the only player on the team who cannot break a golf score of 100. I am the worst golfer of all time. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 211.74.75.139
