Marlins select catcher with first pick in amateur draft

For just the second time in their history, the Marlins have selected a
catcher with their first pick in the June amateur draft.
這是馬林魚第二次在第一輪選秀上選了捕手.
Kyle Skipworth, a 6-3 catcher from Riverside (Calif.) Patriot High School,
was the Marlins' pick at No. 6 overall in Thursday's draft. He went just
behind Florida State catcher Buster Posey (Giants), so we'll never know if
the Marlins would have been willing to meet Posey's rumored bonus demands
that were far higher than Skipworth's.

Skipworth, a left-handed batter, hit .584 with 12 home runs and 44 RBI as a
senior while leading the Warriors to the state semifinals. During one stretch
of league and tournament play, he delivered hits in 18 consecutive plate
appearances.
這位左打的捕手在高三時期打擊率高達五成八四,十二支全壘打跟四十四分打點,率領

He is often compared to Twins star Joe Mauer, who went first overall in 2001.

"That's a great honor to be compared to someone like Joe Mauer," Skipworth
said. "He's one of the best in the game. I've never met him, but I'm looking
forward to the day when I do."

Charles Johnson was the only other catcher to go first on the Marlins' draft
board. He was taken in 1992 out of the University of Miami.

Miami first baseman Yonder Alonso went just behind Skipworth, going seventh
overall to the Reds. The Marlins were said to be considering Alonso as well
but opted to fill one of the biggest voids in their farm system: catching.

之前也曾一度考慮過Alonso,不過最後還是選了農場最缺乏的捕手.
