[情報] Marlins would sign Pudge at right price
MIAMI -- Ivan Rodriguez remains an intriguing option for the Marlins, but the
team is prepared to head into Spring Training with the catchers already on
the roster.
The Marlins would entertain signing Rodriguez, but only for about the league
minimum, plus incentives. Unless the team and Rodriguez can find an agreeable
price, Florida will go with John Baker as the starter and Mike Rabelo as the
likely backup when Spring Training opens on Feb. 14.
Without being specific, president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest said
the club likely will head into Spring Training with Baker, Rabelo and
prospects Brett Hayes and Brad Davis as its catching choices.
"Bake did a great job for us last year," Beinfest said of Baker, who became
the regular after the All-Star break last year. "He spent six, seven years in
the Minor Leagues before he had his opportunity. As far as experience, Mike
Rabelo, who was injured last year, had experience as a backup in Detroit."
There is no question Rodriguez would be a benefit to a young staff. The
organization has great respect for him and recognizes his importance on the
2003 World Series championship team.
But if the asking price is in the $3 million range, then the Marlins will go
with what they have, along with exploring other options.
in 2003, Rodriguez's lone season with the Marlins, four starters posted more
than 150 innings -- Carl Pavano (201), Brad Penny (196 1/3), Mark Redman (190
2/3) and Dontrelle Willis (160 2/3). Josh Beckett finished with 142 innings
that season.
