MIAMI -- With the way Jorge Cantu had been swinging the bat recently, you
figured something was going to happen when he came up to bat with the winning
run in scoring position in the bottom of the 14th.

Cantu grounded to first for a potential double play, but the throw to first
base went wide, allowing Ronny Paulino to motor around to score and give the
Marlins a 3-2 win over the Reds on a walk-off error in front of 10,825 on
Monday night at Dolphin Stadium.

It was the second walk-off of the year, with the first also being supplied
by Cantu -- on a ninth-inning single on April 10 against the Mets.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak and kept Florida in first
place in the National League East. It was the Marlins' first home win since
April 12 -- though they've been on the road 16 of their last 19 games.

With Daniel Ray Herrera on the mound for Cincinnati, Paulino drew a leadoff
walk, and Hanley Ramirez followed up with a single to left field. Cantu
then grounded to the right side, where Joey Votto fielded the ball, fired
to second base and, with Herrera covering first, Paul Janish's throw ended
up trickling into foul territory to plate the winning run.

With that, the Marlins put an end to a game that saw 112 batters come to the
plate and 419 pitches thrown. And when Ross Gload pinch-hit in the bottom of
the 11th, the Marlins had already run out of position players.

Both teams combined to go 3-for-20 with runners in scoring position, and
Cantu had a chance to end it in the bottom of the ninth. But he flied out to
right field with two outs and the bases loaded to send the game into extra
innings.

Cantu may have ended it, but Burke Badenhop, who threw three scoreless
innings and recorded the win, was "the MVP," as Gonzalez proclaimed after
the game.

"It was really big for me to come out and kind of whip that last one out in
Chicago, because we had a win there, too, and I really would've liked to

tonight to go out there and get back on the right side of the victory
column."

first-and-third, one-out jam in the top of the first, Johnson didn't put a
runner in scoring position until the seventh inning and needed just 68
pitches to get through six.

The Marlins did their only damage off Reds ace Aaron Harang with a run in
the first and sixth inning. Ramirez saw a first-pitch changeup from Harang
with two outs in the opening frame and blasted it to the left-field sets for
his first home run since April 10. In the sixth, Hermida hit a two-out RBI
single to left field to score Ramirez.

singles off Johnson -- one from Ramon Hernandez that brought in a run -- and
Adam Rosales grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to score Jay Bruce.

But seven innings later, the Marlins had a victory after a four-hour and

something like that, it's a tough thing to bounce back from.
