[情報] Jorge Jimenez, Florida Marlins’ rule 5 pick, will get s
by Joe Capozzi
Judging from blog comments, Marlins fans don’t sound exactly thrilled about
the two Class players Florida got from Houston in return for Matt Lindstrom
yesterday. Well, the Marlins front office is excited about the so-called “
player to be named,” which completed the deal this morning via the Rule 5
draft.
It’s Jorge Jimenez, a left-handed hitter who batted .289 this year for Boston
’s Class AA team. He hit 13 home runs and had 87 RBI.
I know, it’s still someone you’ve probably never heard of but the Marlins
will give him a good look at third base in spring training.
If Jimenez blossoms, the Marlins could move Jorge Cantu from third to first
base and maybe put Logan Morrisson in the outfield. Morrison will get a shot
at first base in spring training, competing with Gaby Sanchez.
The Marlins also took minor league LHP Anillins Martinez from Cleveland’s
system. He’s a reliever who will probably start the year at Class A Jupiter.
The Marlins lost a promising outfielder: John Raynor was taken by the
Pittsburgh Pirates. Florida still thinks highly of Raynor, but he was
squeezed out of the equations by Marlins OF prospects Mike Stanton, Scott
Cousins and Bryan Petersen.
Petersen, by the way, is getting rave reviews by the Marlins’ player
development staff. He was named to the Arizona Fall League’s Top Prospects
team after batting .379, with 11 multi-hit games.
