Marlins' Ramirez benched for poor effort
Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said he benched Hanley Ramirez for not giving
enough effort.
Gonzalez acknowledged that Ramirez had a sore ankle, but that's not the
reason he left the game. "We expect an effort from 25 guys on this team, when
that doesn't happen, we've got to do something," said Gonzalez. The Marlins'
skipper was eluding to Ramirez jogging to catch up with a ball that he
accidentally booted into the left field corner. Ramirez was replaced by Brian
Barden to begin the third inning of Monday's game. No further action is
expected.
