出處:http://www.usopen.org/ by Erin Bruehl Wednesday, August 30, 2006 It took over 24 hours and several suspensions due to the heavy rain, but Amelie Mauresmo finally advanced to the second round of the 2006 US Open. Playing the second match of the day in Arthur Ashe Stadium, No. 1 Mauresmo finished her match against German qualifier Kristina Barrois, winning 6-1, 7-5. The match was suspended and finally postponed Tuesday because of the rain, with Barrois leading the second set 5-2 and the eighth game of the set about to start. Picking up again Wednesday, Mauresmo looked like the No. 1 player in the world, not the player who was losing the second set, 5-2, to the 131st-ranked player. "I just thought yesterday, and especially in the second set, I was way too much behind my baseline and so she was able to take control and really hit some great shots," Mauresmo said. "So you know, I just today didn't want to let that happen again, even try to be a little bit more agressive, try to be also more effective on my service games because you know that second part of yesterday was not so good." The Frenchwoman easily won five straight games, despite still not serving particularly well - a problem that plagued her on Tuesday. Despite having a first-serve percentage of just 56 percent in the first set Tuesday, Mauresmo pulled out the 6-1 victory. For the entire match, she converted just 59 percent of her first serves and committed 18 unforced errors to 36 for Barrois. At times in the second set on Tuesday, though, the large gap in world rankings was not so obvious. It stayed on serve through the fifth game of the set, when Barrois took the game for a 3-2 lead. Barrois then scored her first break in the sixth game on Mauresmo, setting up break point when Mauresmo double faulted and then won on a smash winner for a 4-2 lead. Serving the next game, Barrois effectively moved Mauresmo around the court to set up three consecutive winners to go ahead 5-2. Then the rain came again. "It's tough for us to, you know, to stay in the locker (room) or in the player lounge or player restaurant and really doing nothing," Mauresmo said of waiting to see if the match would be completed on Tuesday. "Do we eat? Do we, you know, wait? What do we do? It's not a good day for anybody." Mauresmo appeared unrattled Wednesday, however, easily holding her own serve at love to start the eighth game and then hitting a great passing shot by Barrois to the right to score the break, closing the gap to 5-4. Then serving for the match with a 6-5 lead, from the net Mauresmo perfectly placed a winner to the right side of the court to complete the match, with a fist pump - about 27 hours after it originally started. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 82.236.196.33
