Defeat fails to take shine off great year for Mauresmo Sun Nov 12, 2006 7:24 PM GMT By Simon Baskett MADRID, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Losing the WTA Championships title and number one spot to Justine Henin-Hardenne did not take the shine off a brilliant year, Amelie Mauresmo said on Sunday. "It's tough because the disappointment is there right after the match," the Frenchwoman said after her 6-4 6-3 defeat in Madrid. "But I'm sure that in a couple of days I will look back on the season thinking that I would have signed for this season if anyone had told me I would win two grand slams and be in the final here. "All the goals I've had I've achieved and that gives you an appetite for even more next year. Once you've tasted the emotions, these big moments you just want more. That's why you play tennis, and it's really amazing. "So I'm really looking forward to recovering and getting ready for next year." The 27-year-old beat Henin-Hardenne in the final of the Australian Open and at Wimbledon and was the top-ranked player for most of the year. "I hope to have moments like this year again. I want to keep having these sensations. This has been my best season by a long way. "My priority now is to stay injury free and maybe lighten the start of the year compared to this year. I was at my limit at Wimbledon and Roland Garros this year and you have to find a balance." As to her defeat in Sunday's final, Mauresmo hinted that fatigue might have been a factor that prevented her from repeating her round robin victory over the Belgian. "I think she played differently from Friday. She made less unforced errors and it wasn't easy having played three three-set games on the way to the final. "But I can't blame that for my defeat. She simply played better than me and took her opportunities. "I think if we both keep playing like this then we'll have more meetings. The reason I play tennis is to have big moments like these."
