Defending women's champion Amelie Mauresmo has cruised her way into the second
round of Australian Open 2007 with a 6-3 6-4 success over American Shenay
Perry.
In the first match of the tournament to be played at Rod Laver Arena, Mauresmo
took charge early on, breaking the 22-year-old's serve on two occasions in a
30-minute first set.
Perry did manage a break of her own in the each of the sets, but Mauresmo's
pressure when receiving told in a relatively tight second set.
The American, who had failed to make it past the first round in her two
previous trips to Melbourne, held out for another 44 minutes, but two breaks of
service against her saw the No.2 seed progress to a clash with Russian Olga
Poutchkova, who defeated Poland's Marta Domachowska 6-2 6-4.
