The draw for the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal between Italy and France
has been made at the Felisia nightclub in Castellaneta Marina, and first to

who have their first career meeting as they go head to head in this
weekend's battle for a place in September's final.
World No. 6 Amelie Mauresmo will meet Francesca Schiavone in the second

with four wins against the Italian's three. The full draw is as follows:

Honours all round for Mauresmo
The French team to face Italy in Castellaneta Marina this weekend for a
place in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas final, will feature not only just one
of the world’s top tennis players, but a woman honoured by her country.
Earlier this year, Amelie Mauresmo received the highest French civilian
accolade in recognition of her two Grand Slam singles titles last year and
her services to tennis.
When the former President Jacques Chirac awarded the 27-year-old Mauresmo
with the ‘Legion d’Honneur’, he commented on the exceptional
circumstances, which led him to reward his country’s highest-ranked tennis
player. “Amelie is far from having the required age for such a distinction,
but I’m proud to award the ‘Legion d’Honneur’ to a woman who has long
been the leader of French tennis and who has carried aloft the colours of
France all around the world.”
Mauresmo’s dedication to her country has always been apparent, and her
involvement in Fed Cup by BNP Paribas a priority. With the exception of 2004,
when she felt so exhausted that she opted to pull out of the Fed Cup final
in Moscow, she has always said yes to the competition, which brought her
one of the proudest moments of her career. In 2003, Mauresmo led the French
team to victory in Moscow, beating both Russia and the USA in the same week.
This year, after missing the first round tie against Japan, due to having
her appendix out in March (two days after being awarded the ‘Legion d’
Honneur’), Mauresmo is looking forward to returning to team action,
after her disappointing fourth round defeat to Nicole Vaidisova at Wimbledon.
“ I really want to be part of the adventure, and help the girls reach the
final,” Mauresmo said.
The switch from grass to clay may not be easy for the French No. 1, but she
will be up for the occasion, looking to start the second half of the year
on a high. “Fed Cup could be a good way for me to get going; I love the
team spirit of it,” she added. Her coach Loic Courteau is also the team
coach; her physical trainer Xavier Moreau is another member of the backroom
team, as is her physician Gilles Daubinet. “It feels like a family and when
you’re surrounded by ‘family’ members, no wonder you tend to perform at
your best.”
