During a rather laid-back press conference, the former World N° 1 she elaborated on her week full of emotion. Amelie Mauresmo, could you describe how you felt the minute you won the game point? For a few seconds there, I couldn't believe it was true. Then I realised that I won the tournament I love so much. And especially that I'm back to tournament victory after two years of hardship. I was starting to doubt myself. So today, I felt a lot of emotion. I let it all out on the court immediately afterwards because I had been keeping a lot bottled up for a while. Which brings you more satisfaction, getting your game back, or winning the trophy? Both. When the week started, I was happy to have gotten my level back. And when you get to the end in the semis, and then to the final, you don't really care how you get there as long as you go all the way. First of all, you can't always play your best. And sometimes, you snatch tournaments without playing at your highest level, but because you were just better than your opponent. Was today the hardest match? Yes. It was against a player who had built up pretty much confidence since early in the year. She gave me a lot of trouble, but apparently, I gave her even more. "Confident in my ability to come back during the match." Hugo Lecoq said that just like the night before in semi-finals you might have let the second set go? Is that what experience can bring? It's risky! But it really does require experience. To be able to do it, you really have to be confident in your physical ability to get going again, and that's not easy. That's actually what happened today. I trusted my ability to get back into the match. The pleasure you were talking about, is it in your game or in the emotion? It's in the emotion. Early in the week the greatest pleasure was in my game because I saw that I was playing well. After the victory and the emotion which followed, it was awesome. Word has gone around about your retirement in the past months. Without mentioning dates, wouldn't this tournament be the perfect time to say goodbye, since you're at home at Coubertin? It's my home, that's for sure. But I don't know how I will make my retirement, or in what circumstances. I really have no idea. If can relive moments like these, whether it's right before I stop or not, I will grab the opportunity. It's just too hard to know when. You've announced withdrawal from Dubai, when will your next tournament be? Indian Wells, then Miami. I'm starting the American tour in early March. Which tournaments would you especially like to shine in? Coubertin was a priority for me. And of course Grand Slams are important. Indian Wells and Miami are not especially tournament s that excite me, but all the best players in the world are there. So it would be good to go as far as I can.
