And the Mavericks' 6-8 swingman has gotten along just fine without most of the digit he lost at a young age. "I hate that it happened," Green said, "but I just try to act like it's not even there, which it isn't." Green, who is in his fourth NBA season but already has been dealt a career's worth of twists and turns, is trying to prove that nothing is missing from his game except the last couple of inches of that ring finger. He's had a solid training camp, including some nice contributions Wednesday night in the Mavericks' 100-93 exhibition loss to the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse. He finished with nine points in 14 minutes. It may not sound like anything overwhelming. But for Green, it's a matter of making inroads toward re-establishing his NBA career. He'll be on the Mavericks' opening day roster. But after getting waived last season by his hometown Houston Rockets, he's just "glad to be back wearing an NBA uniform." Was that ever in doubt? "No, it wasn't in doubt, but I had a very long off-season," he said. So long that it felt like Green would never get back to the NBA. He was waived in early March by the Rockets. Nobody wanted him enough to pick him up for the remainder of the season. Now, he's trying to earn a spot in the Mavericks' rotation. "He can score in a hurry and can come off the bench and change the game," Kidd said. "Everybody talks about how he can't play defense, but he blocked a shot in La Crosse [against Milwaukee]." Green's finger had to be amputated when he was a kid after the fluke accident that happened when his ring got caught on a nail while he was playing. "I think I've done a pretty good job of not worrying about it," he said. "I learned to play without it." George sits: Devean George sat out Wednesday's game with a bone chip in his left hand. George said he plans on resting the hand for a couple more days and hopes to play Saturday against Sacramento. George joined Jerry Stackhouse, Kidd and Erick Dampier on the sideline. That trio will play tonight at Detroit. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 220.131.224.253
