DALLAS -- Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle isn't going anywhere. But the same might not be true for one assistant. President Donnie Nelson said Friday that Carlisle's job is not in jeopardy, that "nothing is coming out of the blue." Meanwhile, assistant coach Dwane Casey remains one of the names circulating for the open head-coaching jobs with Philadelphia, the Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans. Casey said he doesn't have any meetings scheduled, "but I should know more by the first of the week." Carlisle said he was willing to shoulder as much blame for the first-round knockout by San Antonio as any of the players, particularly when it came to questions about playing, or not playing, Roddy Beaubois. "I'm not going to try to spin this as anything good," he said. "When you lose, it's not." Not enough time The Mavericks have 11 players who are or have been starters in the NBA. There wasn't enough playing time to keep everybody happy all the time. Brendan Haywood said some hurt feelings were unavoidable. "Everybody on this team at one point could complain about minutes," Haywood said. "You think Roddy Beaubois didn't want to play? He proved he should be playing. Caron [Butler] doesn't play the whole second half of a game. There's a lot of guys who could complain. "I'd be selfish to put myself ahead of them. That's the hardest part of coaching. It's not X's and O's, it's managing players and minutes." Kidd's exit Jason Kidd didn't attend Friday's exit meeting with coaches and management. There was no reason given for his absence from the locker clean-out ritual that comes the day after the season ends other than he wasn't required to be there. Bright future The play of rookie Roddy Beaubois in Game 6, which some people believe is an indictment on Rick Carlisle for not playing him more earlier in the series, actually is a reason for optimism. "Roddy had a great year in terms of his development and what he did in Game 6 is something our franchise can get excited about and our fans should be excited about," Carlisle said.
