[外電] Big Man on Campus
http://www.tysonchandler.com/news/big-man-campus/2010/08/17
Two years ago, Tyson Chandler was the final cut from a USA Basketball team
that went on to win Olympic gold.
Two years later, TC is a kind of last man standing.
Tyson was assured of his roster spot last weekend when Team USA cut fellow
center JaVale McGee from the roster, leaving Tyson as the only seven-footer
on the team. The team stands at 13 players and will now only need to cut one
more player, which is expected to come from the squad's large stable of
guards.
As Chris Tomasson of AOL FanHouse writes, Ty doesn’t feel odd as the only
big man, in fact, he feels privileged:
Tyson Chandler was asked if he feels lonely now being the only true
center on Team USA.
Heck no. Chandler might never have attended classes on a college campus,
but that didn't stop the team's only 7-footer from using some BMOC speak.
"I kind of like it,'' said Chandler, who went straight from high school
to the NBA in 2001. "I feel like the big guy on campus."

It’s been a great summer for Ty, who was traded last month to the Dallas
Mavericks, then added to the Team USA roster and has survived all the cuts.
Now he finds himself in peak physical shape for the first time in two years,
and he’s ready to give his all for his country.
"I can play as much as they need me," he told Tomasson. "In the last
year, I was getting over injuries, coming off surgery. I'm going 100 percent
now. I feel great ... The year in New Orleans, when we went to a seven-game
series (in a West semifinal loss to San Antonio) was the last time I felt
like this."
On Sunday at Madison Square Garden, Ty was the USA’s starter at center and
got 14 minutes of game action during an 86-55 Team USA exhibition win. In the
process he scored four points, grabbed three rebounds and blocked a shot. The
Team USA coaches have been impressed with the contributions from Ty so far.
"Tyson has been outstanding,'' Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "We
have a relationship from the 2007 qualifying team (and in 2008 when Chandler
came close to making the Olympic team) ... He doesn't need the ball. He's
stronger. I bet he's at least probably 15 pounds heavier and stronger than he
was in 2007. He feels healthy.''
In a friendly exhibition at the Radio City Music Hall last Thursday night,
Tyson was the hero. His impact on Team USA so far has been large, fitting for
the biggest man remaining.
"This is something that I expected," Chandler said of it being evident
for a while there might be few big men on the final roster. "I knew I was
going to have to bring a defensive presence. I knew I was going to have to
bring rebounding. I knew I was going to have to anchor the defense."
As the team prepares for a few more exhibition games before the FIBA World
Championships begin in earnest on August 28 in Turkey, Tyson is just having
fun with Team USA, fulfilling the role that he expected and always dreamed of.
"It's an amazing experience to be able to come together in a short time
and bond around one common goal."
兩年前Chandler被美國隊裁掉
而今年他是唯一球隊裡的正統中鋒
當被問到是否感到寂寞時
Chandler說不會
我反而喜歡這種感覺
他說無論球隊需要他上場多久
他都會盡力去表現
Chandler
