"He said: stop playing games,'' Cuban said. "I said, 'I guess you're out.' If he doesn't want to play poker, we won't play poker. That's what I said.'' "Well, yeah. Just his response to it,'' Cuban said. "Everybody goes through ups and downs. Every player does. We tried to put him in a position to succeed. You guys saw it, saw what we did. It didn't work. And I just asked him, does he want to go for it or not. Is he in or is he out? I just didn't get a commitment. He also said he felt like the Mavericks were winners in the deal. "Yeah, I think the winners are us,'' he said. "He didn't want to play. He decided to go elsewhere or do something else. Now we regroup and go forward. So, you just take the circumstances and make the best of them. Was this the first time Cuban noticed a negative energy emitting from Odom? "No, but the first 17 times, I decided to try to help him and turn it into a positive,'' he said. "In any deal, sometimes you're on the right end.
