Kidd’s desertion to the Milwaukee Bucks from the Brooklyn Nets came suddenly and surprised many people around the NBA. The former All-Star point guard caused yet another coach, Larry Drew, to unexpectedly lose his job. Now, the New York Daily News has made a list of Kidd's victims throughout his basketball career. It turns out, Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle was one of the longest tenured coaches with Kidd. Carlisle, who has been the head coach of the Mavericks since 2008, coached Kidd in Dallas from the trade deadline of that season to when Kidd left Dallas in 2012. That's not to say Kidd hasn't done his fair share of damage to Mavericks coaches. He has played a role in three former Dallas coaches being fired by the organization. In his first stint with the Mavericks in 1994, Kidd was drafted and coached for one season by Dick Motta. However, Kidd didn't attend minicamp in Motta's only year in Dallas and the coach was quickly let go. Jim Cleamons took over for Motta, but was also only able to last one season with Kidd. "Kidd was already reportedly beefing with teammate Jim Jackson when he decided to freeze out Jim Cleamons as well. Kidd forced a trade, the Mavericks were terrible, and Cleamons was fired a year later," the article said. After the Mavericks traded for Kidd in 2008, Avery Johnson was fired less than three months into Kidd's second stint with the team. "They can't blame that one on me," Kidd reportedly told a friend. "When I got there, the players all thought he was crazy. And he was." The other coaches on Kidd's list of victims included Lou Campanelli at the University of California and former Nets coach Byron Scott. As a coach, Kidd has been linked to the firings of assistant coach Lawrence Frank and now Larry Drew. Frank, however, was able to coach Kidd in New Jersey from 2001 to 2004 as an assistant and 2004 to 2008 as the head coach. The only other coaches who come close to lasting as long as Carlisle and Frank were Danny Ainge and Scott Skiles. Ainge was the Suns coach from 1996 to 1999 when Kidd was in Phoenix and Skiles took over from 1999 to one year after Kidd left in 2002.
