[外電] O'Neal still day-to-day
MiamiHerald的消息
Shaquille O'Neal missed his second straight game Saturday against the Cavaliers
because of a slightly swollen left knee, leaving his status in question for
tonight's game against the streaking New Jersey Nets.
Heat coach Pat Riley said O'Neal was a game-time decision, but given the team's
experience in last year's playoffs, it was probably an easy decision to allow
O'Neal to sit out.
''We don't want to go through what we went through last year,'' Riley said.
``It's a nightmare for me to remember the [Dwyane Wade] rib [injury] and the
thigh [injury to O'Neal]. My whole thing is about maintenance right now, but
not at the expense of complacency.''
Although Riley doesn't mind seeing his franchise center miss a couple of games
to recover, he still expects O'Neal to return in good condition for a
season-ending run into the playoffs.
''I think when you show a professional coaching respect to veteran players . .
. then somewhere along the way there has to be real due diligence on their part
to . . . maintain a conditioning basis,'' Riley said.
Starting small forward James Posey also missed Saturday's game with tendinitis
in his right ankle. He is day-to-day.
