O'Neal not sure if he'll play CLEVELAND — Heat center Shaquille O'Neal said Friday his left knee remains swollen, making him questionable for today's game at Cleveland and Sunday's game at New Jersey. Asked if he'll play this weekend, O'Neal said, "I'm not sure. I'm going to take some more medicine and then wake up and see how it feels." Coach Pat Riley also was noncommittal. "When he tells me he's ready, then he'll go," Riley said. Last April, O'Neal suffered a left thigh bruise that dogged him throughout the playoffs. But he does not seem worried about his knee problem. He said he has fluid buildup "all the time" in his left knee and had to have it drained two years ago. "I'll be all right," said O'Neal, who presumably is taking an anti-inflammatory. He added that he does not expect to have the knee drained. Guard Dwyane Wade said he expects Shaq to be OK. "I'm not concerned," Wade said. "He knows what he's doing. If he's hurt he's going to get better. He's been in this league 13 years. I can't even think in 13 years what I'll be doing." O'Neal, who didn't practice Friday, missed Wednesday's 98-94 victory at Toronto because of the swelling. He said he isn't sure if there was a specific cause. "I woke up the other morning (Wednesday) and it was swollen," he said. O'Neal, 34, has missed 20 games this season — 18 because of a sprained left ankle, one because of a sprained right thumb and one because of the knee. The Heat is 10-10 without him. He missed just nine regular-season games last year after missing 15 games in each of the previous three seasons. He also missed two playoff games last season because of the thigh bruise he sustained April 17 — three days before the end of the season — when he was kneed by Indiana forward Jermaine O'Neal. Shaq didn't rule out simple wear and tear as the cause of the knee swelling. This season, he has averaged a career-low 30.4 minutes per game. After a hot start in March, O'Neal cooled off and ended up averaging 20.1 points and 9.1 rebounds, almost identical to this season's career-low averages of 20.1 and 9.2. Still, he he hasn't lost any respect around the league. "He doesn't need to go out and press himself as much because he has Dwyane Wade and other guys that can help them," Cleveland's LeBron James said. And the way Cleveland coach Mike Brown sees things, Wade and periodic rest might help O'Neal complete the five-year, $100 million contract extension he signed in August. "Being with a veteran ball club and a veteran coach, I know that they know how to handle him and rest him," Brown said. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.216.167.80 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.216.167.80
