Payton sidelined 2-3 weeks with torn calf muscle
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Miami Heat guard Gary Payton will miss 2-3 weeks with a
torn left calf muscle.
A team spokesman said Tuesday that Payton was injured in practice the day
before. He will not need surgery.
The 38-year-old Payton, who did not travel to Charlotte for a game against
the Bobcats on Tuesday, is averaging 5.3 points and 2.9 assists. He's started
27 of the 67 games he's played.
The loss of Payton will likely mean more minutes for starting point guard
Jason Williams, who has missed 20 games with multiple injuries.
"Whatever [coach] Pat [Riley] wants to do," Williams said. "I just know I'll
be ready when called upon."
